Asoka Vidyalaya witnessed a momentous occasion yesterday (8th May)morning as several projects jointly undertaken by the Asoka Vidyalaya Old Boys’ Association and its affiliated batches were officially handed over to the students.
Marking a major milestone, the second phase of the Smart Classrooms Project—launched to commemorate the college’s 50th anniversary—was successfully implemented. Seven newly constructed smart classrooms were ceremonially opened and handed over to the school. The 1993, 1998, and 2004 batches provided both financial and technical support for this initiative. Members of the Old Boys’ Association, alongside representatives from these batches, joined students in celebrating the opening.
In addition, a new physical fitness center—an essential facility for school athletes—was officially opened. The Old Asokians Rugby Wing made generous financial contributions to bring this much-needed facility to life.
Further enriching the school’s resources, a Tuba—an essential musical instrument for the Western Band—was donated to Asoka Vidyalaya. This instrument, valued at approximately Rs. 900,000, was made possible through the contributions of the 1993 and 2004 batches in collaboration with the Old Boys’ Association. With this addition, Asoka Vidyalaya joins a select group of premier schools in the Colombo District—Ananda, Nalanda, Royal, and Mahanama Colleges—that own this instrument.
These projects reflect the continued commitment of Asoka Vidyalaya Old Boys’Association to uplift the school’s educational, athletic, and cultural facilities for current and future generations.
